Job Title

Associate Lab Technologist

Location

Overview

We’re seeking an Associate Lab Technologist to join our Pittsburgh laboratory team, working an onsite Monday – Friday schedule from 7:00AM to 3:00PM. In this hands‑on laboratory position, you’ll play a critical role in patient care by isolating DNA and RNA from patient samples and processing them through various testing methodologies, including next‑generation sequencing (NGS) and non‑sequencing‑based genetic tests. Your work will directly contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases across all patient populations—from newborns to adults. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a clinical laboratory environment and wants to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes through precision genetic testing.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare specimens for analysis and organize tests to be performed.
  • Prepare and properly label reagents required for laboratory testing.
  • Conduct genetic analysis of blood, saliva, dried blood spots, or human tissue to determine the presence of abnormal sequence changes.
  • Review test results for QC purposes, maintain legible work records, and enter findings into the laboratory information systems.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment according to the established schedule and procedure.
  • Verify proper instrument function by checking and calibrating lab instruments and documenting data.
  • Record on instrument log any repairs, replacements, and maintenance performed on laboratory instruments.
  • Participate, as requested, in the training of new employees.
  • Abide by laboratory safety policies and procedures.
Working Conditions
  • Clinical and research lab environment with exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
  • Must wear protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves, and closed footwear.
  • Employee may be requested to work shifts other than daylight depending on the needs of the laboratory.
  • Weekend rotation may be required.
  • Travel is not required.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use a keyboard, type, and occasionally stand and move to other parts of the lab. Must have manual dexterity to use lab equipment. Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.

Basic Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in biology or a related scientific discipline.
  • One of the following: 0–2 years of lab experience, or completion of a molecular genetics training program and one year of experience in a molecular genetics laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASCP certification preferred but not required.
Salary

Base salary range for this full‑time position is $20/hr – $23/hr. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
