Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System seeks an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform accurate testing of specimens and report results per policy. The role includes maintaining quality controls, troubleshooting instruments, and may involve phlebotomy as required.

The position supports multiple lab sites within the Cape Fear region. The candidate should have an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, ASCP eligibility or certification, and the ability to work under pressure

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with clinical training in neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.
• 50-week US military medical laboratory procedures course or equivalent.
• MLT (ASCP) certification or eligible per ASCP requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively via telephone, LIS, email and verbally.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate testing of specimens according to established laboratory protocols.
• Report test results promptly according to laboratory procedures.
• Report results for statistics, abnormals, critical values, and special requests as defined by policy.
• Document special handling required for certain results.
• Perform quality control and ensure compliance with CAP and JCAHO standards.
• Maintain instruments and perform required maintenance.
• Troubleshoot instruments, reagents, and patient specimens as needed.
• Float to other sites as workload requires and cover duties in supervision absence.
