Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in Louisiana is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform clinical testing across General Lab, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. You will ensure quality control, proficiency testing, and preventative maintenance of equipment while delivering timely results.

This role involves specimen collection, result reporting, maintenance of LIS/HIS systems, and strict adherence to CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Must meet CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489 requirements.
• Experience in Blood Bank, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology is preferred; entry possible for graduates.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.

Responsibilities

• Meets core leadership and professional competency expectations.
• Ensure CHRISTUS Health values are evident in service.
• Collect, label, and process blood specimens; operate centrifuges and related equipment.
• Report results promptly, identify errors, and notify medical team of critical values.
• Perform, document QC, and follow CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO guidelines.
• Conduct daily and periodic maintenance; restock supplies and date reagents.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and education.
• Assist in training new staff and students in lab practices.
• Adhere to CAP, AABB, CLIA, JCAHO, and OSHA standards.
• Follow safety and infection control protocols for hazardous materials.
• Utilize LIS and HIS for charging and reporting results.
• Complete annual competency assessment by due date.
