Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I to support medical laboratory scientists across specialized laboratories. This role operates under direct supervision and follows regulations stipulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.

You will receive and accession patient samples, ensure accurate data entry, and maintain proper patient identification for billing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of CLA I experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
• Preferred additional biology/chemistry course work.

Responsibilities

• Receives and accession s patient samples into the Laboratory Information System.
• Ensures that all codes and information are entered accurately and timely.
• Maintains accurate patient identification and information for billing purposes following departmental procedures.
• Processes specimens (centrifuges, aliquots, and other handling) and delivers specimens to specific labs as required.
• Saves or preserves specimens in appropriate storage per procedures.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues and documents information for quality assurance.
• Performs add-on testing as per procedures and may perform waived to moderate complexity testing.
• Answers calls and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
• Resolves customer complaints/issues with proper documentation.
• Communicates test results and descriptions professionally to internal and external customers.
• Reviews and acts on test pending lists and supports equipment troubleshooting with supervision.
