Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I to support routine laboratory services across UMMS laboratories. Shift: Monday–Friday (2:30pm–11:00pm).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum of two years of work experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I (CLAI) or equivalent in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Receives and accession patient samples into the Laboratory Information System with accurate coding and patient ID for billing.
Processes and handles specimens, including centrifugation and storage as needed.
Identifies and resolves specimen integrity issues and documents for QA purposes.
Performs add-on testing per departmental procedures.
May perform waived to moderate complexity testing as approved.
Answers telephones and responds to inquiries.
Resolves customer complaints with proper documentation.
Communicates test results and descriptions to internal and external customers professionally.
Reviews test pending lists and follows up as needed.
Troubleshoots instrument problems with some guidance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
