Job summary

The University of Rochester Medicine is seeking a dedicated lab team member to support specimen receipt, data entry, and LIS processing at UR Medicine Labs. This role requires careful data entry, knowledge of LIS, and accurate specimen handling in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include training staff, ensuring specimen integrity, and traveling between locations as needed. A solid foundation in healthcare or lab operations is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 1 year related experience or certification in a related field such as medical laboratory assisting or successful completion of an approved educational program
• 12 months related work experience in health care setting or customer service field, including other UR Medicine lab divisions; or 12 months as temporary employee
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

• Enter patient demographics and insurance information into the EMR accurately.
• Log patient and test information into LIS and verify criteria.
• Receive pre-accessioned specimens into LIS from varying sources.
• Identify specialized testing requests and prioritize specimens to meet turnaround time.
• Prepare specimens and determine stability and aliquotting technique.
• Distribute specimens to the appropriate department for analysis.
• Provide training for other laboratory personnel as needed.
• Travel between testing locations as required.
