Job summary

Schweiger is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our clinical pathology laboratory, overseeing chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, and allergy testing. You will manage workflow, assign staff, monitor turnaround times, and ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and state/local requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of progressive clinical laboratory experience with lead/supervisory responsibility.
• Must meet CLIA personnel requirements and state licensure where testing is performed.
• Knowledge of CLIA quality-system expectations, laboratory safety, quality control, calibration, maintenance, competency assessment, corrective action, and proficiency testing.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, organization, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, train, and direct laboratory personnel; assign work based on workflow needs, competency, and staffing coverage.
• Plan daily testing workflow, prioritize urgent work, monitor turnaround time, and escalate issues affecting patient care.
• Maintain staff training and competency documentation and ensure personnel perform duties they are trained for.
• Oversee specimen receipt, accessioning, labeling, processing, testing, result review, and customer-service follow-up.
• Ensure QC, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing activities are completed, documented, and escalated as required.
• Investigate quality events, nonconforming specimens, instrument errors, QC failures, and interface issues; document corrective action and follow through to resolution.
• Ensure analyzers are operated and maintained per manufacturer instructions and that supplies and reagents are available and within storage/expiration requirements.
• Maintain complete laboratory records including QC, maintenance, inventory, and patient-testing documentation.
• Coordinate with laboratory director, reference labs, courier partners, IT, vendors, and office teams to resolve operational issues.
• Support validation/verification/implementation and ongoing quality improvement for new tests, instruments, and interfaces.
• Adhere to safety, infection-control, hazardous-waste, privacy, and security practices at all times.
• Travel to alternate locations for training, implementation, or coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by leadership.
