Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a laboratory service assistant to receive, prepare, and process specimens delivered to the laboratory. The role includes registering patients, entering test orders, verifying specimen IDs, and maintaining a clean work area.

Responsibilities also include supporting team tasks, operating instrumentation, and mentoring MLA students in specimen processing per WPAHS policies while complying with HIPAA and privacy guidelines.

Qualifications

• 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Registration and medical terminology knowledge are required or may be gained through related training or degree programs.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately and efficiently.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures.
