Job summary

Grady Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to analyze specimens, operate and maintain instruments, and integrate patient data with test results to support diagnosis and treatment.

This role requires a Bachelor's degree and certification eligibility/credentialing as a Medical Technologist. The position emphasizes quality control, continuing education, and collaboration with clinical staff in the laboratory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree is required.
• New graduates (90 days post grad) completing an accredited educational institution must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months of employment.
• Must be certified as a Medical Technologist by: ASCP or AAB NCA or Deemed registry eligible as a Medical Technologist by ASCP or NAACLS accredited School of Medical Technology and registry eligible.

Responsibilities

• Follows SOPs for collecting, accepting suitable samples, processing and analyzing specimens and other substances for routine and complex tests.
• Integrates clinical and laboratory data to resolve discrepancies and make informed decisions.
• Verifies results in the laboratory information system.
• Monitors workload to ensure timely completion for high priority samples.
• Executes, verifies, and documents quality control procedures and maintains testing accuracy.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments and conducts corrective procedures.
• Participates in continuing education for professional growth and competency.
• Teaches laboratory procedures to students and staff in training.
• Contributes to continuous quality improvement within the department.
• Provides information to customers about specimen status, requirements, and test results.
