Job summary

Grady Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to analyze biological specimens and integrate instrument data with patient information to deliver accurate results for diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree and registry eligibility with certification within 18 months of employment. Responsibilities include QA/QC, instrument maintenance, and education of staff and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree is required.
• New graduates (90 days post grad) completing an accredited educational institution must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Follows standard operating procedures for collecting, accepting samples, processing and analyzing biological specimens and other substances for routine and complex laboratory tests.
• Integrates clinical and laboratory data to make decisions regarding possible discrepancies. Verifies results in the laboratory information system.
• Monitors workload to ensure timely completion for high priority samples.
• Executes, verifies, and documents quality control procedures; maintains accuracy and precision of testing system.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments, detects problems and performs corrective procedures.
• Participates in continuing education and training; teaches laboratory procedures to students and employees.
• Contributes to continuous quality improvement within the department.
• Provides information to customers about specimen status, collection requirements, and test orders/results.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Registry eligible as a Medical Technologist (ASCP/NCA/NAACLS) or equivalent
