Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and evaluate technical procedures in the clinical lab using QC guidelines with automated and manual methods. The role may include venipuncture and support in other sections as needed.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's in Medical Technology or related science and ASCP MLS registration; 1–3 years of clinical lab experience preferred. Shift: Days; FTE 0.7; weekends required; on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science required.
• Registered MLS (ASCP) required.
• 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Organizational skills to prioritize daily workload.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical procedures within the department accurately and precisely.
• Enters test results accurately in the laboratory information system.
• Calls “critical value” results within 10 minutes of test completion with documentation.
• Evaluates results and determines technical accuracy of tests.
• Oversees the work of a medical laboratory technician and participates in QA programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including ongoing learning and committee participation.
