Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, CA seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Level II) to perform automated, semi-automated and manual tests across hematology, chemistry, serology and microbiology. You will maintain instrumentation, enter data, and coordinate with nursing staff to ensure timely patient care.

Requires California CLS license, minimum five years’ experience, and a 1-year internship. Supervisory duties may include in-charge responsibilities and training staff.

Qualifications

• Valid California State Department of Health Services Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
• Ability to learn and utilize computerized patient care management system.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must effectively read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
• Minimum five years’ experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Successful completion of a supervised one (1) year clinical laboratory internship.
• Supervisory skills in areas of assuming responsibility, exercising independent judgment, making judicious decisions when responding to issues and problems and flexing staff to accommodate workload.
• In-depth knowledge of the laboratory organization, policies and procedures including technical safety procedures and information system functions.
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or equivalent.

• You will perform automated, semi-automated and manual procedures in the fields of bacteriology, parasitology, hematology, coagulation, serology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and immunohematology. According to established procedures and policies
• You will perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, interpret results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and organize work to meet established deadlines and record all data obtained
• You will work actively and be cooperative with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care as well as assist with regulatory compliance
• You will be responsible for training lab personnel and are expected to perform in-charge assignment in the absence of a manager

Our Clinical Lab Scientists (level II) perform clinical testing in one or more of the following areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology and manual tests.
