Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, CA, is hiring a Clinical Lab Scientist II to perform automated, semi-automated and manual testing across blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology and more. This senior CLS will train staff and may lead in absence of a manager, ensuring accuracy and timely patient care.

Requirements include a CA CLS license, a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or equivalent, five years’ CLS experience, and strong communication and analytical skills.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Our Clinical Lab Scientists (level II) perform clinical testing in one or more of the following areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology and manual tests. You will perform automated, semi-automated and manual procedures in the fields of bacteriology, parasitology, hematology, coagulation, serology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and immunohematology. According to established procedures and policies You will perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, interpret results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and organize work to meet established deadlines and record all data obtained You will work actively and be cooperative with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care as well as assist with regulatory compliance

You will be responsible for training lab personnel and are expected to perform in-charge assignment in the absence of a manager

What qualifications you will need:
  • Valid California State Department of Health Services Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge of the laboratory organization, policies and procedures including technical safety procedures and information system functions.
  • Supervisory skills in areas of assuming responsibility, exercising independent judgment, making judicious decisions when responding to issues and problems and flexing staff to accommodate workload.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals including physicians, hospital staff, laboratory staff, hospital administration and clients.
  • Analytical skills are necessary to resolve technical and non-technical issues and problems.
  • Successful completion of a supervised one (1) year clinical laboratory internship.
  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Ability to learn and utilize computerized patient care management system.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must effectively read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
