Job summary

Luminis Health in Annapolis, Maryland seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support diagnosis and patient care through comprehensive lab testing. The role requires ASCP certification eligibility and provides growth through ongoing proficiency testing and education.

Responsibilities include conducting hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology analyses, maintaining LIS documentation, and mentoring staff. A strong emphasis is placed on quality and safety in a high-volume lab environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with ASCP certification eligibility (MLS/MT) as required.
• 1 year of experience in an acute care facility preferred.
• MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), categorical or specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT) certifications are required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Promote process improvement and take ownership of outcomes.
• Maintain safe, clean working environment and comply with procedures and regulations.
• Foster cooperation across departments and ensure smooth handoffs.
• Manage laboratory supplies inventory and procurement to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Provide clinical laboratory information and mentor new staff and students.
• Conduct clinical laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, immunology, microbiology, and urinalysis.
• Prepare reports, document findings in the LIS, and communicate abnormal results to designated personnel.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and perform preventive maintenance.
• Participate in quality plans and quality control for all procedures daily.
• Engage in external proficiency testing and continuing education to maintain licensure.
