Job summary

St. Mary’s Hospital - Kankakee is seeking a laboratory professional to perform waived through high-complexity tests under CLIA guidelines.

You will follow established procedures, ensure quality control, and report patient results across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and microbiology. Requirements include ASCP certification preferred, a Bachelor’s degree in health science/MLT, and state licensure where required.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification preferred.
• One year hospital laboratory experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
• Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Responsibilities

• adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when tests deviate.
• identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor/Director.
• perform diverse lab procedures using manual and automated methods in hematology, blood bank, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, immunology, and other disciplines.
• perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment.
• review the accuracy of patient results before reporting.
• recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
• ensure proficiency testing samples are tested correctly and coordinate with other labs as required.
• may perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups.
• assist in development and maintenance of lab policies and procedures.
• adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and HR policies.
• in supervisor's absence, may be Lead Tech and oversee the section/department during shift.
• may have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT.
• other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director.
