Job summary

Hillsboro Health in Hillsboro, IL seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory Tech to perform chemistry, bacteriology, serology, hematology and blood bank testing, and report results to aid diagnosis.

Openings are FT Evening/Night; requires an associate degree in laboratory science or MLS/MLT. A bachelor’s in MLS/Medical Technology or CLIA-equivalent is preferred. CPR within six months may be required; 1 year hospital experience is helpful.

Qualifications

• Requires an associate degree in laboratory science or MLS/MLT; a bachelor's degree in MLS/Medical Technology is preferred.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills required.
• 1-year general hospital experience is helpful; CPR certification may be required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supports the hospital mission, vision and values.
• Ensures proper specimen collection and identification.
• Performs tests using microscopes, chemicals, computers and instruments following protocols.
• Reports results in a timely manner and conducts retesting when needed.
• Maintains equipment and performs routine calibration and preventive maintenance.
• Assists with daily paperwork and result distribution; may assist with nursing home/doctor office pickups.
