Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of microbiological procedures, including:
• Bacterial culture and identification
• Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
• Mycology and parasitology testing
• Molecular diagnostics
• Blood cultures
• Quality control and instrument maintenance
• Analyze and interpret laboratory results, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all procedures and results.
• Collaborate with other laboratory staff and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
• Participate in departmental quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree required.
• Continuing education lectures and courses to keep knowledge current as required.
• Must have experience reading different culture types and setting up cultures, traditional and molecular-based.
• Required training in:
• Hematology
• Chemistry
• Blood Bank
• Microbiology
• Immunology and Serology as applicable.
• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or Limited California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
• California Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License.
• California Clinical Microbiologist Scientist Licenses are required; ASCP registry preferred.
• LA Fire card is required (must obtain within 90 days of hire; classes offered at the hospital).
