Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Everett, WA, is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead daily operations of a clinical laboratory. You will supervise staff, ensure CLIA/CAP/OSHA compliance, and drive quality improvements while coordinating testing services and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a nationally recognized agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT, AAB)
• 3+ years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist
• In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, including techniques, procedures, and equipment
• Knowledge of CLIA regulations and experience as a technical supervisor
• Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance, including proficiency testing and instrument maintenance
• Knowledge of Lean principles and ability to apply Lean tools to improve efficiency
• Familiarity with LIS and proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced lab, multitask, and meet deadlines
• Ability to supervise, train, and mentor laboratory staff

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring staffing, workflow, and timely turnaround of results
• Provide leadership and supervision to laboratory personnel including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, and performance management
• Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA and maintain inspection readiness
• Develop and maintain laboratory policies, quality control, safety, and document management
• Monitor testing systems for accuracy and reliability; investigate issues and implement corrective actions
• Coordinate proficiency testing programs and document corrective actions
• Maintain laboratory records and reports related to quality metrics and equipment maintenance
• Manage inventory, supplies, equipment, and vendor relationships
• Promote safety and investigate incidents; ensure adherence to safety protocols
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to support quality patient care and provide testing consultation
• Serve as a technical resource for instrumentation, methodologies, and workflows; perform bench testing
• Support continuous improvement including method validation/verification and new tech implementation
