Job summary

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to support laboratory operations and assist technologists with workload demands. You will perform clerical tasks and provide support for specimen processing and pre-analytic laboratory functions.

The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, detail-oriented, able to contribute to a fast-paced laboratory environment, and committed to providing compassionate care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (required).
• Phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a clinical setting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safety, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, and external facilities.
• Clean and organize lab workspaces and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of specimen handling and test results.
• Collect, label, and process specimens for in-house and off-site testing.
• Assist with bone marrow procedures and support physicians and nurses as needed.
• Perform routine and therapeutic phlebotomy, port draws, and waived testing per CLIA '88 guidelines.
• Travel to satellite clinics as needed and provide additional support during high-volume periods.
