Job summary

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to support laboratory operations and assist technologists with workload demands. You will perform clerical tasks, support specimen processing, and pre-analytic laboratory functions in a fast-paced environment near Peoria, Illinois.

The role emphasizes reliability, organization, and compassionate patient care, with opportunities to assist during high-volume periods and at satellite clinics.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, and external facilities.
• Clean and organize lab workspaces and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of specimen handling and test results.
• Collect, label, and process specimens for in-house and off-site testing.
• Assist with bone marrow procedures and support physicians and nurses as needed.
• Perform routine and therapeutic phlebotomy, port draws, and waived testing per CLIA ’88 guidelines.
• Travel to satellite clinics as needed and provide additional support during high-volume periods.
