Job summary

Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, part of Covenant Health, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to provide phlebotomy services and EKGs, while ensuring proper patient identification and specimen processing. You will train new staff and manage order entry within the laboratory information system.

The role requires a high school diploma, basic computer skills, and familiarity with hospital operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with English, typing, filing and general office etiquette.
• Ability to read with comprehension and write legibly; good grammar.
• Familiarity with hospital services and operation; knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of collection techniques and proper tubes/anticoagulants; able to use hospital and lab information systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs accessioning and specimen processing functions.
• Performs order entry and basic patient registration.
• Performs basic phlebotomy for adults, children, and infants.
• Performs EKGs.
• Performs testing under licensed personnel to extent permitted by state law.
• Ensures accuracy of patient, specimen and order information.
• Monitors supply levels and replenishes stock.
• Collaborates with coworkers to provide quality and timely collections.
• Participates in departmental maintenance and other duties as assigned.
