Job summary

Methodist Hospital Stone Oak seeks a Clinical Lab Assistant to support specimen processing and testing in a busy laboratory. You will prepare slides, run moderate complexity tests, and maintain instruments while adhering to regulatory standards.

This role may involve phlebotomy, point-of-care duties, and clerical responsibilities. A high school diploma and phlebotomy training are required, with certifications preferred and experience in medical labs valued.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED required.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Graduate of Phlebotomy Course required; if not completed, one year of medical laboratory experience or college coursework in biological/chemical sciences is necessary.
• Six months keyboarding or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens for the section; prepare blood smears and body fluid slides, centrifuge specimens, streak microbiology plates, prepare specimens for transport to reference labs.
• Understand laboratory methods and correlate disease states with test results; perform moderate complexity testing.
• Set up instruments and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Perform basic quality control and collect quality assurance data; handle clerical duties such as phone communications, data entry, filing, and inventory.
• May perform phlebotomy, point-of-care and waived testing as designated.
• Work in accordance with laboratory regulatory standards.
