Job summary

Covenant Health Oncology Group in Oak Ridge, TN, is seeking a PRN Medical Office Lab Assistant to perform venipunctures and process clinical specimens in a busy physician office laboratory (POL). The role requires accurate labeling, proper aseptic technique, and proficient use of EMR systems.

Responsibilities include patient account support, specimen handling, and coordination with reference laboratories. This is a variable-hours, day-shift position offering on-site work in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer skills, medical terminology, phlebotomy skills, or an equivalent mix.
• 1 year of hands-on phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Experience with POL and reference laboratory workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Registers patient accounts and ensures correct patient identification and billing.
• Collects venous blood samples following proper procedures.
• Labels specimens accurately using two patient identifiers.
• Operates and troubleshoots laboratory equipment and maintains logs.
• Manages specimen transport and coordinates with reference laboratories as needed.
• Documents quality control, testing results, and patient records.
