Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a full-time role in the One Health: Link Landing – Family Medicine department. You will perform moderate laboratory testing, prepare specimens, verify patient IDs, and maintain equipment to support clinical decision-making.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with experience in laboratory testing; phlebotomy training and related clinical experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required with experience performing moderately complex laboratory testing.
• Experience performing CBCs and clinical training in phlebotomy, nursing, and/or radiology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the urgency of a test and prioritizes tasks accordingly.
• Prepares specimens for testing and verifies patient identification on samples and requisitions.
• Uses and maintains laboratory equipment, documents quality controls, performs minor troubleshooting, and keeps work area clean.
• Prepares reagents as required for test performance.
• Calculates, reports, and records test results; analyzes results for critical values and notifies providers.
• Oversees/participates in Quality Assessment activities and documents problem recognition and resolution.
• Performs waived and moderate laboratory procedures with supervision; handles venipuncture and specimen collection as needed.
