Title: Clinical - Lab Assistant
Location: Pittsburgh, PA - 15220
Duration: 2+ Months

Shift/Time Zone: 11:00pm-7:30am Mon to Fri

Job Description:

OB SUMMARY:

Basic Purpose: Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Sorting and receiving specimens in the department.
2. Perform routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.
3. Perform laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts), specimen storage and retrieval.
4. Prepare reagents and/or media in the department.
5. Prepare specimens at workstations for testing (including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, slide preparation).
6. Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.
7. Resolve pending lists.
8. Find missing samples.
9. Decontaminate work areas.
10. Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
11. Maintain files for department records.
12. Change gas cylinders.
13. Follow all PPE requirements and all safety regulations.
14. Use the laboratory computer system as well as operate PCs.
15. Dispose of biohazardous material.
16. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Education:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
