Job Summary

Assists in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the medical student simulation curriculum throughout Years I-IV at Keck School of Medicine. Reports to the Associate Dean for Simulation Education and collaborates closely with the Associate Dean for Curriculum. Responsible for direct teaching of procedural skills, coordinating skills-related activities, and aligning these with the overall competency-based curriculum. Works with Deans of Simulation and Curriculum to meet all medical student simulation needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

• Bachelor's Degree in nursing or a health-related field and/or Physician Assistant Certification

Minimum Field of Expertise

• Current and valid California State RN/PA-C License
• Certificate in Basic Life Support

Preferred Education

• Master's Degree in nursing, education, or a health-related field
• Certificate from a BRN-approved nurse practitioner program
• Certificate from a PA-C approved physician assistant program

Job Responsibilities

Teaching

• Provide direct instruction in skills labs (e.g., suturing, procedural skills, student interest group labs, ICM experiences)
• Serve as a key resource for simulation schedules, activities, and assignments
• Assist faculty in developing and coordinating skills sessions and workshops
• Meet with students individually to provide formative feedback and address skill deficiencies
• Implement remediation for basic clinical skills as needed

Curriculum Development

• Collaborate with Deans to integrate simulation into the curriculum
• Assist in developing course goals, objectives, syllabi, and materials
• Conduct needs assessments to identify curriculum gaps
• Stay current with national simulation guidelines and recommend updates
• Contribute to developing information systems for student evaluation
• Evaluate teaching effectiveness and compile assessment summaries

Administrative Duties

• Coordinate with faculty, staff, and administration regarding the simulation curriculum
• Address student skill deficiencies and communicate progress
• Represent USC's simulation programs to prospective students
• Manage equipment inventory and supplies, including annual audits and procurement
• Assist with accreditation preparations and industry reviews

Professional Development

• Participate in simulation research and data collection
• Maintain professional networks and stay updated with industry standards
