Job Requirements Are you passionate about advancing nursing practice through education, technology, and innovation? The Clinical Informatics Training & Development Educator serves as a strategic nursing education partner responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously improving Epic focused training programs and learning experiences that support nurses throughout their professional journey.This role will participate in UMMS's First Year Nursing Experience education strategy, ensuring newly hired nurses receive a comprehensive onboarding and Epic training experience that promotes confidence, competency, and success. The Educator will also oversee ongoing nursing education, workflow optimization training, and nurse remediation programs, partnering with nursing and operational leaders to identify learning needs and develop targeted interventions that improve performance and adoption of best practices.As a key member of the Clinical Informatics team, this individual will serve as a nursing and Epic subject matter expert, responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing Epic training curricula, training environments, change management strategies, and end user education programs. The Educator will collaborate closely with Nursing, Clinical Informatics, Operational Excellence, and Information Services teams to ensure Epic functionality is effectively leveraged to support safe, efficient, and patient centered care.The role will also play a key part in preparing nurses to effectively adopt and leverage emerging technologies in clinical practice, including artificial intelligence (AI) enabled tools and workflows within Epic and the care environment. Working closely with nursing, informatics, and operational leaders, the Educator will assess learning needs, develop curriculum, and deliver innovative educational programs that build competency, confidence, and proficiency with new technologies. This position will help create scalable learning strategies that support practice readiness, strengthen critical thinking and clinical decision making, enhance workflow efficiency, and ensure nurses are equipped to maximize the benefits of AI and other advanced digital tools at the bedside.The ideal candidate is a clinically experienced nurse, educator, and change leader with a passion for Epic optimization, workforce development, and advancing nursing practice through informatics and emerging technologies. General Summary

Under general administrative direction, the Clinical Informatics Training & Development Educator is accountable for the development of training programs, curricula, and training environments for assigned EHR applications. The Educator is responsible for delivering value added healthcare informatics and training programs that support the strategic plan of the organization and achieve clinical, financial, and service quality objectives. In collaboration with Informatics and UMMS partners, the Educator manages communication and coordination of training curriculum changes and system updates to meet organizational objectives. This role is accountable for the quality of informatics training services delivered, coordination with IS&T application teams, coordination across system hospitals, and contributing to the design and maintenance of systems that support multidisciplinary team functioning and continuity of services across the Medical System. The Clinical Informatics Training & Development Educator also manages training projects for clinical and business applications within the healthcare environment.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to assess, redesign, and continuously improve the effectiveness and productivity of clinical and business training programs.
  • Anticipates and identifies complex clinical, business, and informatics issues and monitors associated risks.
  • Communicates risk factors to informatics leadership and stakeholders and manages projects to support continuous quality control of processes and deliverables.
  • Builds and maintains effective networks of internal and external subject matter experts across the Medical System.
  • Meets with stakeholders across the Medical System to review workflow issues, provide solutions, and gain commitment to recommendations.
  • Guides multidisciplinary groups toward solutions and provides system level leadership to champion organizational change from inception through implementation.
  • Identifies barriers to change and effectively manages ambiguity and complexity.
  • Plans, organizes, conducts, and/or directs technical training programs for applicable roles.
  • Conducts needs assessments and identifies training needs based on stakeholder feedback, industry knowledge, and EHR product development.
  • Incorporates stakeholder feedback into service design and develops appropriate training materials to support technical solutions and clinical and business processes.
  • Educates and coaches stakeholders on effective process analysis and improvement techniques, including the use of data to assess and improve unit performance.
  • Participates in project workgroups and attends meetings as required.
  • Participates in multiple aspects of electronic health record development and implementation, including training development and delivery, go live and elbow support, testing activities, reporting, and prioritization of business and clinical needs.
  • Effectively uses, interprets, applies, and communicates data and information from multiple sources, including financial reports, clinical and service quality data, human resource data, and external market information.
  • Interprets changes in key performance indicators and collaborates with stakeholders to implement workflow improvements at the member organization and service line level.
  • Facilitates key stakeholder discussions and responses to issues impacting clinical practice, care delivery, business operations, and revenue cycle.
  • Supports innovation in clinical practice, care delivery systems, and healthcare business operations by staying current with advancements in healthcare informatics, care delivery, and training through literature, continuing education, and professional development.
  • Disseminates and incorporates relevant research findings into informatics and EHR initiatives.
  • Interprets organizational goals and objectives for Medical System stakeholders.
  • Evaluates training and educational programs to measure course objectives and program effectiveness.
  • Maintains appropriate records and tracking tools and communicates program effectiveness to organizational and service line stakeholders.
  • Provides pertinent feedback to informatics leadership regarding departmental resource management related to Epic application usage and support.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in assigned EHR applications and organizational workflows.
  • Develops, leads, and executes local hospital Credentialed Trainer, Super User, and End User training programs.
  • Serves as a training resource for UMMS and local hospital stakeholders and builds, tests, and maintains training environments for EHR applications.
  • Contributes to updates to organizational and Medical System policies and procedures related to training.
  • Serves as an Informatics resource for UMMS preceptorship programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Experience Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
  • Master's degree in nursing, another clinical specialty, education, business, informatics, or a related field preferred.
  • Where applicable for clinical roles, clinical licensure in the State of Maryland or eligibility for licensure through a Compact State agreement is required.
  • Three years of clinical or direct healthcare industry experience required; five years preferred.
  • Informatics or training industry certification preferred.
  • EPIC ClinDoc certification preferred.
  • Achieves and maintains applicable Epic or EHR application certification status within six months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering educational programs across hospitals or healthcare systems.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint preferred.
  • Ability to manage frequent change and adapt effectively to diverse environments.
  • Demonstrated highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders across different functions and organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop conceptual designs for clinical and business services, and successfully plan and organize projects.
  • Proficiency in eLearning design preferred.
