Job summary

United Health Services (UHS) seeks a Clinical Informatics Specialist to bridge clinical operations and Information Services, optimizing EHRs and workflows to improve patient outcomes. You will lead and support informatics initiatives, translate clinical needs into tech solutions, and partner with Epic teams on system improvements.

Reporting to the Director of Informatics, you will bring clinical expertise to enterprise technology projects, system upgrades, device integrations, and patient care

Qualifications

• Minimum: Bachelor's degree in nursing or relevant clinical field.
• Five years of clinical experience in inpatient or ambulatory care.
• One Epic certification within one year of hire.
• Preferred: Master's degree in clinical informatics.
• Four or more years in clinical informatics-related experience; Epic experience & certifications; National certification in clinical informatics.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a clinical expert, liaison between IT and clinical operations teams.
• Promotes comprehensive understanding of clinical documentation with nursing preceptors and new hires.
• Provides initial at-the-elbow support for new UHS providers and nursing/clinical staff.
• Assists with provider personalization (order favorites, view configuration, smart phrase development).
• Leads as clinical expert in Epic dress rehearsals and go-live support for nursing staff and providers.
• Conducts clinical rounding in inpatient settings for operational support.
• Assists clinical end-users with workflows to improve efficiency, quality, and patient safety.
• Collaborates with informatics, IT, and Epic analysts for resolution.
• Submits Cherwell tickets as needed.
• Participates in monitoring Epic clinical reports (Barcode Compliance, Open Encounters, etc.).
• Identifies root causes for non-compliant issues and supports improvements.
• Improves clinical efficiencies via workflow assessments and reporting.
• Participates in regulatory visits when requested.
• Works with IT and Epic teams on problem solving.
• Identifies IT/EMR root causes and improvement plans for safety events.
• Participates in Epic application testing for optimal workflows and compliance.
• Evaluates current and emerging technologies to support safe, cost-effective care.
• Prioritizes Epic optimizations as a clinical expert.
• Participates in operational workgroups/committees (advisories, quality/safety, education, emergency management).
• Engages in new clinical device testing and implementation.
• Builds collaborative relationships with health care team members for interdisciplinary care.
• Collaborates on rounding findings and team goals.
