Job summary

UPMC Presbyterian's Clinical Immunopathology Laboratory is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join a collaborative, highly specialized team on a Monday–Friday daylight schedule (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) with shared on-call rotation.

The team focuses on infectious diseases and autoimmune testing, delivering critical results that guide treatment across the health system.

Responsibilities

• Follow established procedures for collection and processing of specimens for analysis, ensuring appropriateness and stability of samples.
• Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow up per protocols; identify problems and act accordingly.
• Operate and maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration; monitor supplies and perform minor repairs.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments and factors affecting results.
• Participate in test development, methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation.
• Perform High Complexity Testing (per PA DOH) without direct supervision.
• Assume temporary first-line supervision of the section/department as delegated.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable.
