Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus is seeking a day shift, full-time Clinical Educator Registered Nurse for the New Life Center in Topeka, Kansas.

The role focuses on orienting new staff, planning and delivering education activities, and ensuring regulatory and accreditation standards are met. Ideal candidates have a BSN, Kansas RN licensure, and a minimum of 3 years' clinical staff nursing experience, with teaching experience and a master's degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and current Kansas RN licensure.
• BLS certification required within 14 days of hire.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a clinical staff nurse.
• Master's degree in Education or Nursing preferred.
• Teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Educator orients new staff to the position and department. Plans and conducts various education activities for the staff. Effectively communicates both in writing and verbally. Reports to the Director or designee.

• Plans and conducts a variety of orientation activities for personnel to meet competency assessment requirements to conform with departmental objectives and accreditation standards.
• Oversees new staff progression through the orientation process, completes and maintains orientation documentation in compliance with regulatory agencies, and develops/maintains orientation materials to keep information current.
• Oversees and coordinates staff education activities to provide opportunities for staff development by assessing learning needs and coordinating education plans, staying current with new developments in training techniques/programs, and utilizing expertise in areas of specialization to provide consultation services to staff.
• Provides leadership to staff to ensure teamwork by displaying expected behaviors to encourage staff growth, participating in performance improvement JCAHO activities to ensure regulatory compliance, and carrying out research using evidence-based practices.
• Promote appropriate practice changes to ensure the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
• Act as a liaison between management and staff to foster growth and development.
• Complete mandatory education and competencies within the year specified.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing
• Current Kansas RN Licensure
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a clinical staff nurse with at least one year experience in area required.

Preferred Job Requirements

• Master's degree in Education or Nursing
• Prior teaching experience preferred
