Job description

Job Definition – Clinical Educator‑Pediatric OR (260005CC)

Hours of Operation: primarily M‑F 5 (8)s or 4(10)s; occasionally working off shift or weekends to meet with staff on those shift. Will work between clinical educator and staffing rooms based upon department need.

A Brief Overview

The clinical educator provides and evaluates clinical education for licensed and unlicensed staff on all shifts and facilitates evidence‑based practice.

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with unit leadership to ensure staff competency upon hire and annually.
  • Support leadership by facilitating staff’s adherence to accreditation standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Exhibit leadership skills and ability to coach and develop staff to maintain and promote quality and affect change.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Nursing Education and Professional Development to identify learning needs, develop and implement educational strategies, and participate in learning effectiveness evaluation.
  • Adhere to the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice in Nursing Professional Development roles established by the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) to include: Educator, Consultant, Researcher, Facilitator, Change Agent, and Leader.
  • Provide patient care as required.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation for specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field (MSN) – Preferred
Work Experience
  • 3+ years RN experience in OR (required)
  • Experience with education, teaching in a clinical setting (required)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi‑State Compact License (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (required)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred
  • Certification in a specialty clinical area or nursing professional development (required within 1 year)
