Clinical Educator Job Responsibilities

• Utilizes system strategies and tools to assess the competency of new nursing staff members while focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals.
• Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new and experienced team members.
• Prepares annual self-development plans, sets professional goals and seek opportunities for achieving them.
• Contributes to quality and safety initiatives across the organization.

This hybrid role integrates the responsibilities of a Clinical Educator and Clinical Mentor, delivering formal education, competency development, coaching, and individualized professional guidance to support clinician onboarding, foster evidence-based practice, promote ongoing professional growth, and advance excellence in patient care delivery.

Hours: Full-time, M-F (regular office hours, with some flexibility as needed based on department needs)

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Master’s Degree or BSN. Upon start, RN must either hold a Master’s or be enrolled in a Master’s program. If RN has a BSN and is enrolled in a Master’s program, RN must meet with their Nurse Leader within 3 months to:
  • Provide a written plan with anticipated Masters completion date.
  • Submit a review of transcripts indicating required pre‑requisites and timeline for taking the courses.
  • Complete Masters within 3 years of start date.
• Experience: 2 years of progressive experience in nursing in the designated specialty; 3 months of experience serving as preceptor.
• Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi‑state RN License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree is preferred.
• 5+ years of hospital‑based RN experience.
• Previous Clinical Educator or Clinical Mentor experience.
• ICU or PACU RN experience; ED RN experience may be considered.
