Job description

Responsibilities

The Clinical Dietitian II assesses patients' nutritional status using recognized assessment tools and provides counseling to patients, families, and caregivers on appropriate nutrition plans to improve disease or condition management. The role includes supporting, modeling, and training Clinical Dietitian I staff, managing resources efficiently, and participating in compliance and quality improvement efforts to ensure safe and effective nutrition care. Additionally, the position assists the Clinical Nutrition Director in coordinating clinical nutrition services.

Essential Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct patient screening according to specialized clinical guidelines for nutritional risk, performing assessments using age, gender, cultural, religious, and ethnic considerations, and validated tools to diagnose nutritional issues when necessary. Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to facilitate care and identify patients at risk or requiring higher levels of care.
  2. Implement targeted nutrition interventions based on medical conditions, providing tailored education to patients and families. Monitor and evaluate patient responses, updating care plans as needed, and follow up appropriately.
  3. Develop intervention plans including feeding routes, modes, and prescriptions tailored to patient needs, in accordance with physician orders. Monitor patient responses to interventions, documenting progress and coordinating with CCS for neonatal and pediatric patients in California.
  4. Work with Food and Nutrition Services to enhance patient experience through participation in tray testing, menu reviews, audits, and ensuring diet order accuracy. Support staff training, including peer reviews, chart audits, and diet manual training, and lead nutrition therapy workshops for hospital staff.
  5. Provide expert-level nutrition care for high-acuity patients across various units, including NICU, pediatric, oncology, renal, diabetes, and gerontology, with order writing privileges.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited dietetics program (ACEND).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in acute care hospital settings or similar environments working with complex patient populations.
  • State licensure within 3 months of hire.

Pay Range

$27.17 - $39.40 per hour
