Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing optimal nutritional care for patients
  • Coordinate food service activities involving diet preferences, supplements, restrictions and basic diet instructions
  • Assist with developing policies and procedures
  • Supervise the planning of daily menus for therapeutic diets
  • Document the medical records, via computer, of all patients on therapeutic diets and others where feasible
  • Interview and counsel patients, their families and/or other appropriate persons
  • Assist physicians with provisions of TPN and tube feeding within scope of practice
  • Work cooperatively with clients, facility staff, physicians, consultants, vendors, and other service providers
  • Specify standards and procedures for preparing food
  • Participate in menu planning including responding to client preferences, substitution lists, therapeutic diets, and industry trends
  • Inspect meals and assure that standards for appearance, palatability, temperature, and servings times are met
  • Present a professional image and a caring attitude
  • Exercising appropriate judgement and correct techniques in procedures, treatments, and drug administration

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for providing nutritional care for in-patients in areas such as rehabilitation and acute concerns. Also available for outpatient weight loss and diabetic counseling. The position is also responsible for educating patients, family and professional staff. The Dietitian willingly participates in the patient care team and supports other team members. Provides oversight for kitchen operations and assists the dietary manager in menu planning and diet orders.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Dietitian within the State of Oklahoma
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field; plus, a completed dietetic internship preferred.
  • Computer skills
  • Mathematical and numerical skills; mechanical aptitude helpful
  • Has effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Has current awareness of legislation and regulations influencing the practice of standards of care
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
  • Licensed by the State of Oklahoma as a Dietitian, or eligible for licensure
  • BLS Certification Required.
  • Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • English is the primary language of the Hospital.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to interpret reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, clients, customers, employees, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratio, percent, rate, as well as the ability to create and interpret graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, and/or diagram form.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in development of the hospital budget. Provides relevant financial information to the Administrator regarding hospital financial needs regarding the Specific Department.
  • Seek out external resources through conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary.
  • Share professional knowledge with hospital staff, board members, and administrator.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to the hospital’s philosophy, mission, policies and procedures.
  • Support the hospital’s goals and objectives, especially those relating to the Dietary Program.
