This position will provide support for hospitals in Stephens and Jefferson County, Oklahoma.

Job Summary The Registered Dietician will work collaboratively with the Culinary Services team and ensure that services provided to patients meet current federal/state/local standards and guidelines and regulations that govern dietary services in a hospital environment assuring quality nutrition and patient safety. This position will provide support for hospitals in Stephens and Jefferson County, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities (essential Functions)
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding, complying, and conveying to other Culinary Services team members the rules and regulations regarding dietary requirements. Educate culinary service team members about food and nutrition.
  • Evaluate the health and diet needs of patients; Calculate patients’ nutritional requirements; Analyze nutritional content of food.
  • Visit patients admitted with malnutrition, or if requested, to perform initial nutritional assessment and screening, explain diet needs, record food preferences, and promote a quality food service.
  • Assist in establishing proper diet plans for patients in accordance with their preference, health, and physician orders. Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to assure that they are in compliance with physician orders. Notify nursing of discrepancies.
  • Access electronic health records and ensure charted dietary notes are complete and timely and menus are maintained and filed in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Plan and present in-service education programs for the Culinary Services. Teach nutrition concepts to the team and demonstrate preparation when needed, mostly for modified diets.
  • Work with Culinary Services Director to achieve quality food service.
  • Submit written reports and any problems to the Culinary Services Director.
  • Participate in hospital committees and events as needed.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols at all times. Understand the facility's fire and disaster plans; Follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies. Follow infection prevention guidance.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
  • Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to navigate information technology associated with the position. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. Knowledge of proper and safe food preparation, food handling regulations and best practices. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to support both hospitals in Duncan and Waurika, Oklahoma. Must maintain a positive attitude; communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect, maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, patients, and customers. Provide clear directions and complete assignments in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university. 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare related foodservice setting preferred. Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic food preparation, use safe sanitary practices at all times, and provide dietary services appropriate to specific needs of patients. Must be able to perform reading comprehension and use math skills when following and calculating recipes. Ability to read, interpret and apply policies, procedures and legal requirements.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess a current, active license to practice as a dietitian in Oklahoma. Oklahoma food handlers permit required. Bloodborne pathogen training required. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
