Job summary

The University of New Mexico Southwest Center for Advancing Clinical & Translational Innovation (SW CACTI) seeks a part-time Programmer Analyst 1 in Albuquerque to support the preparation and delivery of clinical data for research. You will gather data requirements, develop queries, extract and clean data, and ensure privacy protections.

Qualifications

• Experience with relational databases and SQL, including writing, testing, and troubleshooting queries.
• Experience with data cleaning, transformation, validation, management, analysis, or reporting.
• Experience with scripting, statistical, or programming tools such as Python, R, SAS, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with electronic health record data; Oracle Health/Cerner preferred.
• Background in health informatics, clinical care, public health, biomedical research, or related field.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, IRB requirements, protected health information, or secure handling of sensitive data.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical personnel, orally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills; ability to meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, customer-service orientation, and willingness to seek guidance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data mining and extraction from clinical databases and EHRs using SQL and BI tools.
• Prepare research datasets by cleaning, transforming, linking, and merging data from multiple sources.
• Apply de-identification methods to protect privacy.
• Perform routine quality assurance of data completeness, validity, reproducibility, and consistency; document findings.
• Meet with faculty and staff to translate study questions into clear specifications and deliverables.
• Maintain documentation of data definitions, query logic, methods, decisions, limitations, and deliverables; use version-control processes.
• Follow HIPAA, IRB, data-use and institutional requirements for access, storage, and transmission of research data.
• Develop familiarity with evolving clinical data resources and informatics procedures; provide team support and training.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
