Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids seeks a dedicated Medical Assistant to support physicians and mid-level providers in delivering patient-centered care. You will work with patients in clinic visits, by phone, and electronically, ensuring accurate vitals, specimens, and follow-up instructions.

Responsibilities include assisting with injections, phlebotomy, EKGs, and patient education, while maintaining safety and clinical documentation. A BLS certification and licensure readiness are required.

Qualifications

• Medical assistant training or equivalent required to obtain licensure.
• BLS certification required.
• Iowa mandatory reporter training required.
• One year of medical office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing.
• Room and prepare the patient for examination and take vitals.
• Order/administer injections and collect specimens for lab testing.
• Provide patient instruction using pre-approved education materials.
• Print after-visit summaries and discharge patients from the exam room.
• Manage patient calls regarding test results and treatment instructions.
• Process medication requests/refills per protocols and know meds, dosages and interactions.
• Assist with diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed by the provider.
• Maintain sample medication according to policy and procedure.
• Order and maintain appropriate medical supply inventory.
• Document urine drug screens in compliance with regulations.
• Follow Mercy safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions.
