Position Description

Reporting to the Chair of Periodontics, invites applicants to apply for a part-time, teacher-clinician; 3 days per week, 44 weeks per year position. The department is responsible for providing periodontal preclinical and clinical content within the dental school. Pacific faculty engage in teaching, scholarship and service. The successful candidate will supervise pre-clinical and/or clinical student learning experiences in the discipline. Position is Part-Time, 3 days/week, 44 weeks/year (nontenure track).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teaching Curriculum
  • Didactic instruction involving periodontal pre-clinical and clinical content.
  • Participate in outcomes assessment, including student and peer evaluation, to improve curricular content and presentation.
  • Assist in setting standards of care for our Dugoni School of Dentistry student clinic and participate in faculty and staff development.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the supervisor, which may include assisting with administrative tasks, supporting project management, and contributing to department operations as needed.
  • Have the flexibility to travel to the Sacramento campus when required, supporting cross-campus initiatives and collaboration.
  • Supervising patient care in the evening clinics.
  • Supervise students providing clinical care for patients in the Dugoni School clinic including periodontal surgery.
  • Participate in mandatory faculty calibration and development in pre-clinical and clinical areas.
  • Collaboration and Service
    • Engage broadly in other school, university, professional, and community service opportunities.
    • In addition to the traditional expectations for faculty members, the culture of humanism and collaboration at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is especially important.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Knowledge of:
      • Dental school educational processes.
      • Periodontal information and techniques taught within the Department.
    • Ability to:
      • Communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty and administration.
      • Work independently with minimal supervision.
      • Work effectively in a group setting.
      • Maintain confidentiality of information.
      • Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations.
    • Education:
      • DDS / DMD or international equivalent, completion of training from an Accredited Dental School program.
      • Certificate of Proficiency in Periodontics with teaching experience.
      • Valid CPR certification.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience:
      • Two years of previous teaching and practice experience is preferred.
    • Other:
      • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
      • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
      • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

    GENERAL: Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to providing oral health care to patients.

    SPECIFIC: Must possess the motor skills to perform palpation, percussion, auscultation and other diagnostic maneuvers, basic laboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures in a timely manner. Such actions require coordination of gross and fine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional uses of the senses of touch and vision.

    Hiring Range: $88,000.00 - $101,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
