The School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking applications for a Director of Dental Student Education in Pediatric Dentistry, a full-time (12-month), clinical-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. The major duties of successful applicants include pre-clinical, clinical, and didactic teaching of all aspects of pediatric dentistry at the dental student and resident levels. Additional responsibilities involve supporting the school’s compliance with SBU, SBM and SDM best practices, demonstrating growth in pedagogical skills and an aptitude for scholarship, serving on select school committees, engaging in school governance, and participating in the school’s affiliated faculty practice.

Individuals should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that develops strong and supportive relationships with faculty, staff, students and residents, and promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.

Qualifications

Required:

  • DDS/DMD degree from a CODA-accredited dental school/college or international equivalent degree.
  • Certificate from a CODA-accredited Advanced Dental Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the time of employment.
  • Eligible for, or has, a New York State Dental license or a Restricted Dental Faculty license.

Preferred

  • Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).
  • Advanced degree(s) of MS, PhD or similar, or foreign equivalent.
  • Clinical and didactic teaching experiences within the last 5-10 years.
  • Participation in organized dentistry at the local, state or national level.
