The School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking applications for a full-time (12-month), clinical-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics. The major duties of the successful applicant include pre-clinical, clinical and didactic teaching of all aspects of periodontics at the dental student and resident levels. Additional responsibilities involve supporting the school’s compliance with SBU, SBM and SDM best practices, demonstrating growth in pedagogical skills and an aptitude for scholarship, serving on select school committees, engaging in school governance, and participating in the school’s affiliated faculty practice.

Individuals should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that develops strong and supportive relationships with faculty, staff, students and residents, and promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.

The potential to earn a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration (MHEA) as an employee benefit with protected time is also offered, for those interested in advancing their academic career.

Qualifications

Required:

  • DDS/DMD degree from a CODA-accredited dental school/college or international equivalent degree
  • Certificate from a CODA-accredited Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics at the time of employment
  • Board certification, or in the process of achieving board qualifications, by the American Board of Periodontology
  • Eligible for, or has, a New York State Dental license
  • Experience in and an appreciation for the interdisciplinary care of patients with other dental specialists

Preferred

  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience at a CODA-accredited dental school/college or hospital setting
  • Advanced degree(s) of MS and/or PhD in a related field, or international equivalent degree(s)
  • Desire to enroll in Stony Brook University’s Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration (MHEA) program
  • A record of research and/or scholarly activity
  • Participation in organized dentistry at the local, state and/or national level
