Job Description

This non-tenure-track (Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor) faculty member will contribute to the excellence of Idaho State University and the Department of Community and Public Health through teaching, scholarship/research, and service.

This nine-month appointment includes teaching undergraduate and graduate public health and health science courses, mentoring and advising students and student internships, recruiting/retaining students, community outreach, actively engaging in research and scholarship, and other duties assigned by the Department Chair.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching (9-12 of 15 workload units per semester)
    - Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses
    - Incorporate technology and student engaged pedagogies
    - Maintain regular office hours on campus and be available to meet with students
  2. Scholarship/Research (1-3 of 15 workload units per semester)
    - Actively engage in scholarship and continued professional development
  3. Service (2-3 of 15 workload units per semester)
    - Participate in program and curriculum design and evaluation of teaching effectiveness
    - Mentor and advise students
    - Recruit/retain students
    - Assist with program accreditation
    - Build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in public health or another health-related field (e.g., MPH, MHE, MSPH, MS)
  2. Education, research, or work experience in at least one of the 10 Essential Public Health Services: CDC Essential Public Health Services
  3. Teaching experience in higher education
  4. Demonstrated ability to serve students in higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctoral or terminal degree in a relevant field (PhD, ScD, DrPH, or other health-related degree)
  2. Certified in Public Health (CPH), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credentialing
  3. Demonstrated experience in creating a collegial working environment
  4. Experience teaching online or with distance learning formats
  5. Experience with student recruitment and retention
  6. Ability to lead on- and off-campus partnerships
  7. Effective communication skills
  8. Contribution to curriculum development and/or CEPH certification
