MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Clinical Assistant position at our Minnetonka location.

Summary

The primary focus of the Clinical Assistant/Physician Practice Coordinator (PPC) is to manage the assigned Doctor of Ophthalmology’s (MD) practice, ensuring successful clinic and surgery days while meeting established metrics. Responsibilities include facilitating surgeries and procedures, scheduling appointments, documenting patient exams in the electronic health record (EHR), delegating work to support staff, and partnering with management to ensure efficient clinic flow and quality patient care. Starting pay is $22.00-24.00/hour.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Manage MD’s clinic/laser/surgical schedules to ensure proper flow and target budget metrics.
  2. Document patient exams in EHR, including contact lens templates, procedure orders, e-prescriptions, and scheduling follow-ups, ensuring accurate coding and charge capture.
  3. Review chart notes and correspondence daily for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ICD-10 requirements.
  4. Prepare special documentation, letters, and requests with transcription services.
  5. Schedule appointments and surgeries, including complex scheduling needs and recalls.
  6. Handle urgent schedule requests and external provider requests.
  7. Resolve patient issues and tasks promptly, delegate as appropriate, and respond to inquiries within one business day.
  8. Counsel and educate patients and families, including creating medication grids.
  9. Run EHR reports and ensure completion of patient documents like FMLA, DMV, and disability forms.
  10. Complete lens calculations, order implants, medications, and surgical supplies, and confirm tissue orders.
  11. Dispense medications and over-the-counter samples as directed.
  12. Obtain patient signatures on consent forms, administer medications, and assist with minor procedures.
  13. Print and dispense glasses and contact lens prescriptions.
  14. Set up and maintain exam and treatment rooms, ensuring supplies and cleanliness.
  15. Partner with MDs to prepare culture documents, store specimens properly, and coordinate lab pickups.
  16. Facilitate new programs, procedures, technology, and drugs as needed.
  17. Manage vendor relationships for MDs with such arrangements.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And/or Experience

Minimum three years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education required. Experience with EHR systems and ophthalmology/optometry preferred. Bilingual skills are a plus.
