Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field is required (if state allows).
• Master’s degree in social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.
• One or more years’ experience in mental/behavioral health in clinical or observational capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Perform benefit eligibility to ensure patient benefits are active at admission.
• Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric personnel regarding referrals.
• Coordinate admission and transfer between referrals and levels of care.
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
• Communicate projected admissions to internal stakeholders.
• Ensure clinical information from referrals or patients is received before admission.
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments; consult with admitting physician.
• Prepare and maintain medical record documentation for payor authorization.
• Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission before admission.
• Admit patient to registration and accounting system; complete forms with patient.
• Demonstrate positive, empathetic attitude; resolve complaints; prioritize patient safety.
• Coordinate care for patients not being admitted and ensure follow-up.
