Schedule Details/Additional Information:
M-F, 40 hrs/week. Hours vary from 7AM to 6:30PM depending on site and schedule needs. Saturday rotation once every 5 weeks. No Holidays.
Major Responsibilities:- Verifies positive patient identification to ensure safety and assesses patient reactions during specimen procurement.
- Performs Venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients following protocols. Seeks medical assistance if necessary.
- Obtains specimens based on priority and scheduled times. Ensures proper labeling, suitability for testing, and resolves any identification or requisition issues.
- Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to established policies.
- Answers calls, assists with inventory, maintains supplies, and supports billing and other functions.
- Accepts, sorts, packages, and tracks specimens for transport. Processes specimens, maintaining proper identification, and responds to procurement requests.
- Verifies test requests, documents quality assurance data, runs quality controls, and communicates critical results appropriately.
- Enters laboratory results into the computer system.
- Participates in proficiency testing and reviews reports. Generates and distributes reports.
- Instructs staff and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing.
- Provides care appropriate to patients' ages, understanding growth, development, and specific needs.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:Education Required:Experience Required:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:- Knowledge of phlebotomy and lab functions.
- Basic computer skills, including software proficiency.
- Keyboarding and typing skills.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks.
- Customer service skills for effective interaction with patients and staff.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Operates necessary equipment.
- Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for most of the workday.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive, infectious agents, and human fluids.
- Requires appropriate protective gear as needed.
- Must handle stressful situations professionally.
