Job summary

SIU Medicine's Division of Surgery seeks a registered nurse to act as a patient service coordinator and provide direct nursing care within the clinic on site. The role supports physicians, ensures safe, high-quality patient care, and aligns with the school's mission.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinic nursing care and delegate duties to LPNs and MAs in clinic.
• Perform clinic laboratory and procedural testing per protocols; report findings.
• Assist with procedures; set up and complete procedures under MD/APN/PA direction.
• Develop and implement patient care plans with MD/APN/PA and coordinate delivery.
• Organize clinic patient flow to maximize physician productivity and minimize wait times.
• Schedule follow-up activities including radiology and surgeries as ordered.
• Prepare for upcoming clinics by gathering history and relevant data.
• Communicate with call center, patients, families and other healthcare professionals.
• Use critical thinking to triage patient care priorities for calls and needs.
• Maintain and operate clinic nursing equipment.
• Act as liaison between healthcare facilities and other agencies.
• Serve as primary or back-up nurse as directed.
• Provide resource support to departmental staff and other divisions as assigned.
• Complete research-related duties as needed.
