Job description

The Position: Under the supervision of the Clinic RN Supervisor, the Medical Clerk provides routine support to the clinic staff and participants. This role involves clerical support to ensure phones are answered, data is entered accurately, and all internal and external communications are handled efficiently. The Medical Clerk also offers excellent customer service to all clinic visitors and callers.

Compensation: The hourly rate for the Clinic Medical Clerk at Center For Elders Independence ranges from $21.89 to $32.73, based on market rates, experience, skills, and work history.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Follow up on medical orders, including scheduling appointments, transferring orders to staff, completing lab requisitions, and faxing medication orders promptly.
  2. Inform relevant disciplines about medical order changes.
  3. Schedule internal and external appointments, including specialists and treatments, and maintain appointment records.
  4. Assist in scheduling external provider and diagnostic appointments as needed.
  5. Arrange for equipment, escorts, interpreters, and transportation for appointments.
  6. Notify participants and families of scheduled appointments.
  7. Prepare and send paperwork to skilled nursing homes and respond to their inquiries.
  8. Assist in monitoring the clinic's fax inbox and maintain filing systems.
  9. Answer phones courteously, screen calls, and take messages.
  10. Enter outpatient procedures into the database for referral and billing purposes.
  11. Help maintain clinic supplies, inventory, and cleanliness.
  12. Participate in meetings and maintain confidentiality of all participant information.
  13. Follow safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and complete required training.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned in a positive manner.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • At least two years of clerical experience, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical terminology courses preferred.
  • Understanding of Universal Precautions.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Customer service orientation with friendly interaction skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records, data entry, and MS Office is preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
