Job description

About Children’s Minnesota

Children’s Minnesota is one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States and the only health system in Minnesota to provide care exclusively to children, from before birth through young adulthood. An independent and not‑for‑profit system since 1924, Children’s Minnesota serves kids throughout the Upper Midwest at two free‑standing hospitals, nine primary care clinics, multiple specialty clinics and seven rehabilitation sites. As The Kids Experts™ in our region, Children’s Minnesota is regularly ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top children’s hospital. Children’s Minnesota is proud to be recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 2023’s Top Diversity Leaders.

Department Overview

At Children’s Minnesota, we’re focused on a vision to become every family’s essential partner in raising healthier children. We strive each day to create a work environment where professionals can bring this vision to life. In addition to hospitals in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, Children’s has pediatric, specialty and rehab clinics throughout the metro area. Our clinics provide a small office atmosphere and the opportunity to become a valued member of a larger prominent healthcare system.

Position Summary

This position exists to assist the providers and staff in the clerical and patient care aspects of the pediatric clinic. The Dual Trainee Program is a grant‑funded program through the state of Minnesota where an individual works as a Clinic Assistant (CA) while completing a Medical Assistant program through a school chosen by Children’s. The expectation is that the individual works a 0.6 FTE, benefits‑eligible position while maintaining a ‘good’ status in school and taking full‑time credits. The trainee may complete their externship with Children’s or outside of Children’s, with the externship hours set by the school program. The trainee will observe and shadow Medical Assistants and perform tasks assigned to them as a CA, working with their direct leader to create a weekly schedule that fits business needs, their FTE, and their class schedule. If the individual does not maintain a ‘good’ status in school or their position, they will be removed from the grant program and their CA position.

  • Post‑high school training in a health care setting and/or pediatric experience preferred.
