Job summary

The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital - Pediatric Specialty Clinic is seeking a Clinic Services Specialist to manage patient access, check-in/out, and scheduling in accordance with department guidelines and Epic workflows.

You will work closely with patients and families, coordinate follow-up appointments, assist with pre-authorizations, and support billing education while upholding service excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Minimum 1 year scheduling in an outpatient specialty clinic setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and database applications.
• Ability to work with providers and clinicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient access services by checking in/out and scheduling appointments.
• Coordinate pre-registration paperwork and obtain pre-authorizations when needed.
• Educate patients regarding billing processes and financial responsibilities.
• Work independently and with peers to complete scheduling and reschedule lists.
• Maintain Epic Work Queue and In-baskets at acceptable levels.
• Provide feedback to management on service improvements.
• Schedule walk-in lab appointments and ensure orders are in Epic before visits.
• Support vacation coverage and attend scheduling staff meetings.
