Job summary

The Climbing Wall Attendant position at Syracuse University is based on campus and requires in-person presence to support students and patrons at the climbing facility.

Responsibilities include ensuring waivers, equipment checkout, belay orientations, safety monitoring, and reporting while maintaining a clean, safe space for users. This is a temporary, on-campus role with rotating hours.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all who enter the wall area have a current waiver and associated paperwork.
  • Handout climbing wall equipment and utilize equipment checkout system.
  • Administer climbing wall orientations and top rope belay certification tests.
  • Belay patrons upon request and when available.
  • Monitor and correct belay skills of patrons for completeness of safety system and proper belay technique.
  • Identify and coach or correct undesirable or unsafe behavior.
  • Observe bouldering area for clear fall zones and controlled descents.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe and clean facility for patrons.
  • Clear general area, floor and mats of hazards.
  • Implement emergency action plan when necessary.
  • Report all injuries, damage, equipment needs, and user issues to administrative staff through reports as necessary.
  • Complete shift reports as necessary or as required.
  • Attend and complete various mandatory trainings.
  • Assist with other duties as requested by supervisors / pro-staff.

Pay Range

Pay Range $16.00 Per Hour

Monday-Sunday. The employee will have a set schedule and will be asked to take additional shifts if operations needs change.

Job Description

The Climbing Wall / Rental Center Staff work with patrons of the facility to provide exceptional customer service as well as create a safe and enjoyable experience at the climbing wall. Responsibility, dependability, customer service, maturity and visibility are keys to being an effective and efficient Climbing Wall Staff.

Education and Experience
  • Maintain First Aid / CPR certification
  • Top rope belay certification
