Job summary

Planet Rock in Grand Rapids is seeking an experienced Routesetter to design, install, and maintain climbing routes and boulders. You will perform weekly route setting, hold stripping, washing, and organize hardware. The role emphasizes safe, engaging experiences and mentoring apprentices.

Starting pay is $15–$20 per hour for a full-time schedule, with benefits including membership, guest passes, gear discounts, paid lunch, and PTO.

Qualifications

• Prior climbing gym experience preferred.
• Prior routesetting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain holds, including stripping and washing them.
• Maintain a good flow of newly changed routes, by direction of head setter.
• Work with routesetters at other Planet Rock locations to create a unified setting staff.
• Keep up necessary maintenance logs in wall book, working with wall manager.
• Set for local competitions, following schedule planned by head setter.
• Seek higher levels of setting certification for comps, etc., if desired.
